DEFINITION
In Collaboration with Kamala Devi you would coordinate, plan and market special events such as Tantra-Palooza 2009.
SUPERVISION OVER
Guest Teachers, Technical and clerical personnel as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans, organizes, coordinates, promotes, and facilitates special events.
Schedules and maintains communication with speakers, vendors, and participants.
Assists in preparing a variety of publications, materials, and programs for events such as fliers and distribution.
Acts as prime source for promotion of activities and special events through social media and tantra friendly sites such as Craigslist, grapevine, yahoo, one tantra, yahoo groups, SD Tantra Connection...
Coordinates and monitors event time lines before and during the event
Reviews and analyzes performance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education, training, and/or experience in event coordination, journalism, communications or related field a plus.
Knowledge of:
Event planning, public relations and marketing principles and practices; public education system, copyright laws, radio and television broadcast production processes; fundamentals of writing, composition, layout, photography and production for publications, Internet applications as they relate to public information activities.
Skill and Ability to: design and edit variety of materials; write in a creative, descriptive, technical or factual manner; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those involved; respond to sensitive matters and/or situations with discretion, and compassion. Attention to detail. Ability to coordinate complex projects and meet deadlines; prepare presentations and speak effectively in various public forums; utilize standard business and desktop publishing software.
PAYMENT: You're payment would be on commission as a percentage of enrollment for the special events you coordinate with an agreed upon guarantee and potential bonuses for exceeding agreed upon goals.

Depression: You are not alone.

After my fourth major episode with depressive disorder, my doctor declared me a "life-long" sufferer. According to medical studies, people who seek treatment for depression more than three times, never fully recover. It's like a terminal disease, which, he assured me "doesn't mean it will kill you, but statistically speaking," he said, "you'll probably take it to your grave."

As a tantrika, I understand this condition is not eternal, it is merely a temporary karmic pattern. And though, there are many subtle and complex variables binding me to it, I believe liberation is possible in this lifetime. I took the doctor's sentence as a challenge. Having done my time with the pharmaceuticals, I am determined to "go natural" even if it is "against medical advice."

Dedicated spiritual practice has helped my soul experience itself as much greater than the debilitating illusion. I recognize depression as the ego's last stand. It comes on as a desperate attempt to attach to some identity or circumstance. Yet I have great compassion for people in depression because it's hard to generate enough energy to meditate when you can't even get yourself out of bed. I would never have been able to do it alone, and am still grateful to my friends, lovers, spiritual teachers and my community.

Even though there is no "cure" for depression, I have been practicing a wide variety of treatments and I consider myself living proof of that it can be overcome, and life can even become...ecstatic!

One of the many ways I medicated myself was with mantras and affirmations. For Example: "I am not alone." In fact, I found myself in the company of extraordinary people who, like me, had also suffered the big bad blues. Here is a list of famous people that also wrestled with depression.

• Abraham Lincoln
  16th president of the United States, was first overcome by melancholia, today known as depression, in his mid 20s. During that time, his friends had to take away sharp tools from him in order to protect Lincoln from injuring himself. He was again afflicted with depression in the early 1840s. During that time he was under the daily treatment of a doctor for a long period. He struggled with it for the remainder of his life (in addition to anxiety attacks).
• Billy Joel
  Joel admitted himself into a hospital for treatment after attempting to end his life by drinking furniture polish.
• Buzz Aldrin
  Astronaut (along with Neil Armstrong) who walked on the moon in 1969. Aldrin’s depression began shortly after going to the moon and eventually was hospitalized. He recovered with the help of psychotherapy and depression medicines. Aldrin describes his depressive experience in his book, “Return to Earth.”
• Drew Barrymore
  Barrymore's history includes a suicide attempt and being hospitalized.
• Drew Carey
  In an interview with Access Hollywood's Nancy O'Dell, comedian and host of The Price Is Right Drew Carey revealed a darker side of himself. “I was depressed for a long time,” said Carey. So depressed that at the age of 18 and again in his 20's he attempted to take his own life by overdosing on pills.
• Ellen DeGeneres
  DeGeneres went through depression for about a year shortly after the cancellation of her show “Ellen” and publicly coming out in 1997.
• Emma Thompson
  Suffered from depression, brought on by her attempts to conceive via in vitro fertilization.

  Multiple Olympics medal winner first experienced depression when he was 12 and attempted suicide twice.

Sacred Sex has the same rules as theater improv!

It's no secret that I've become infatuated with tantra theater. And when I'm not directing the sacred sexual stories of my friends and lovers in our weekly rehearsals, I'm spending my spare time playing with a new comedy improvisation troupe. What's this obsession about? At first I thought it was just the sultry hot endorphin rush that I got from doing it. Then I realized it is the most ego-confronting practice I've ever engaged in. And now I'm starting to see how this art form is no different from tantra. Infact, famed masters of modern improv, Charna Halpern and Del Close even said:

"Improv is like sex, even when it's bad, its still pretty good."
-- Truth in Comedy.

But they had no idea that many of the basic principles they teach can be cross-applied directly to Sacred Sex. (This is distinctly NOT the case with acting.) Infact, the more someone 'acts' in bed, the less sacred the sex is.
Here are some of the basic tenants of good improv that I could just as easily say about tantra :

• You can not learn it from books, it is a whole body experience that must be practice with devotion.
• The first and most important rule that must not be broken is agreement (Also known as YES...AND) Agreement forwards the action. If there is no agreement in the scene it falls apart. The improvisation dies. It becomes rape!
• A true practitioner must gives up all control without any attachment to how they think the scene should go.
• If you adore and admire your playmates their expression becomes brilliant and by making them look good, you will look better and have more fun!
• Get out of your ego and let a larger story be told.
• Surrender to the spontaneous co-creation in the moment.
• Mistakes are all part of the play.
• No matter how much laughter and play is involved, you must have deep reverence for the craft and the scene must be taken seriously.
• Unlearn your stock responses. Let go of whatever you planning to say. Jokes, like witty pick-up lines will make your audience groan. Don't try to create an effect in your audience, but be true to the deepest impulse that arises in you.
• Trust is essential. Be willing to follow your partners lead.
• Listen deeply to what your partner is saying, not only in their words but in their body language. Take notice and be responsive. Try to recall what they are saying or doing and reflect it back to them later in the scene when it will illuminate new meaning.
• Initate physical movement. Reveal yourself through your actions.
• Interact with your environment
• Don't be afraid of the silence, pausing at the right place can be dramatic.
• Go for group mind...where possible perform as if one player with multiple heads.
• Remember the wise words of Del Close "Listen to your inner voice" and "Take the unusual choice"
• All rules are just suggestions. There is an exception to every rule.

Whether we're in the bedroom or on stage, the spontaneous flow continues. Tantra and Improv continue through everything you do. Practicing either craft can improve your performance in all other aspects of life, from your technical expertise to your sales. I hope to see you at one of our upcoming Tantra theater shows!

Yoni Wisdom

My eager hand presses between my legs warming my Yoni. I'm curled on my side in a nest of pillows at a weekend tantra retreat. My randomly selected partner is spooning me from behind. In this "yoni speak" exercise, his role is to ask my vagina what she wants, then listen, without jugdement to the deep wisdom of my womb.
We follow the teachers instructions:
I guide his free hand to rest on top of mine, flowing additional attention to my yoni. Then he asks:
"What does your yoni want?"
"I want Time & Patience."
"What does your yoni really want?
"I want adoration and respect."
After several rounds of these standard answers, my yoni begins to really speak:
"I want your full attention. I want to go away for the weekend...to get a break from the kids and computers, ringing phones, and even our spouses.
I want you to undress me...slow and lovingly. Strip my clothing off with intention, and watch as gravity takes each garment to the ground.
I want to dance naked for you. Sit down, listen to the percussion music and I'll show you how my body is designed to move. Undulating my hips and breasts and curves to arouse your animal desire.

Breaking up is hard to do... (compassionatly)

28 Tantra and Poly peeps showed up for Last nights Pot-luck and Talk, including three Emerald temple virgins! We shared a wonderful feast, then went into the meditation room to dance barefoot before the tantra talk.
The topic was "Compassionate Break ups," something I've been wrestling with alot lately. I was nervous and excited, not only because of the personal nature of the talk, but because it was the first time I would video tape an event for my new online university. It's fascinating to see how my ego got activated by the thought of being watched by unknown people in the nebulous future. Perhaps with more experience in front of the camera, I'll lean to relax and be myself, but for now, I put on a tight black dress, my best face (make up too) and moved through a fair amount of self-consciousness.
I opened the conversation with a story about how my parents had a ruthless and bloody divorce, that involved knives and red nail polish, but it is a hell of a lot more compassionate than if these two people stayed together for the rest of their lives!

Crystals and Chakras

I confess: I've been slowly but fully seduced into the world of crystals. Despite my skepticism towards spiritual materialism, I can't help but notice how these minerals move me. Without intellectually knowing the properties of various stones I've tried meditated with different rocks and noticed how they resonate with my inner and outer body experience. For me, it's undeniable.

For example: Selinite clears and inspire me, Boji stones ground and energize me, and I have a number of black crystals that immediatly absorb negativity.

So around the beginning of the year, I started bringing crystals into my work, students and clients also to feel the affects but to varying degrees. (And there's no telling what kind of magic is stirring that they can't even feel.)

Now that I'm a full blown convert, my mind is curious about which rocks resonate with which Chakras. (In Sanskrit, the chakras are energy centers within the body through which life force flows.) Here is a basic reference guide I found online and now I'm comparing with my direct experience. Let me know if you're interested in hearing about the more advanced and tantric usage of this wisdom...and my big confession: I sleep with specific crystal wands...and they rock!

Muladhara - Root Chakra

Penguin Dreams

In my dream last night, I was hired to be a high school administrator for an all girls school in Alaska.
First day on the job, I am arranging my office when a bunch of rowdy students come in to taunt me.
"Hey, so your our new principal?"
"I heard you used to direct Tantra theater?"
"That sounds like a bunch of freaks!"
"So now you think you can direct us?"
"Need some help setting up your office?"
Then they gather around my desk and pull it away from me. At first I try holding it in place, but they out-number me and pulled it out of my hands. So I sit there calmly in my chair watching as my desk is dragged across the room. I simply cross my legs and looked at them like..."you don't intimidate me."

When they are done. I stand up, walk across the room and single-handedly pull my desk back to it's proper place.
"You're not going to turn this school into a freak show" the leader of the pack says, she's wearing a black lace top.
I had the impulse to reach across and tweak her nipple to make her squeal, but I thought better of it.
Instead I say, "I'm taking candidates for student body presidents. Please put your name on this list." I hand her a yellow legal pad. "Infact, why don't you all write your names down."

As they huddle around my desk busily writing their names, I pick up the phone and push intercom:
"As your new principal one of the first changes I'm making is to the school mascot. We are no longer going to be the Alaskan Crabs..."
As if on cue...my office door opens and in walks an animal trainer with a penguin on a leash...
"This is Goddess Grey our new mascot."
The girls all cheered for the irresistible bird in a tux.
I put on my sun glasses and confidently step out into the white Alaskan landscape.
The dream ended like one of those Hollywood- Stand and Deliver -movies where in the end...the teacher wins and education is considered cool.

My name is Barnaby and I work for ITN Factual, a documentary production company based in the UK that produces high quality factual programming for all of the major international networks including the BBC, Discovery and TLC.
I am currently researching a documentary on Polyandry, and more specifically I am looking to find one or several polyandrous V triads where one woman is living with two or more heterosexual men. I need a Videographer to Document for Bliss Coach University

With all my recent Media exposure: MTV, Tyra, Fox...It seems I've gotten the bug to be on cameara. I filmed for nearly a week in Sedona and am crossing my fingers for the reality TV Show that REiD Mihalko is pitching to VH1...It has the same title as our book in progress: Free Love, can you really afford it? If all the negotiates go as originally intended, I would be on a panel of experts with REiD, and Diana Adams. But I've come to the conclusion that I need to have more creative control. That I would like to produce my own instructional videos.

Besides, I've announced to the world that I'll be offering my workshops online as videos and recordings... time to build a team and start generating more material.
I started this morning off sharing a cup of tea with Wes Wolcott (an very professional and tantric videographer, who I aspire to work with in the near future, but who's services may be more than I need.)

So I put the following add on Craigslist:
I am looking for low cost or even trade services on an ongoing basis. I feel my situation is unique and I'd like to work with someone who has a sensitivity to subjects that are both spiritual and sexual. I am a tantra teacher and recently founded an online university to help people integrate sexuality and spirituality. I currently work in San Diego offering books, classes, sessions, parties and playshops which I'd like to have recorded so that I can start to offer them nationwide.
As a community leader I have access to a number of volunteers who can work cameras, and some who even own cameras but I need creative direction and editing.

The current goal is to:
Film at least one event per month and edit it with music and minimal graphics at beginning and end.
Digitize it and upload it to a server so that I can:
1) Stream it on my new membership site.
2) Sell it on my online store.

So I'm looking for someone with at least one professional camera, and specific experience in shooting and editing sales and educational video who is prompt and professional in meeting agreed upon deadlines.

Celebrating Change as the Only Constant

My Beloved resigned from his job yesterday. After one full year of abunance and learning, he's moving on to new things.

This is also the week in which I restructured my business and announced the launch of Bliss Coach University. I sent out my initial letter entitled, Shift Happens, and I was flooded with dozens of supportive letters from erotic educators, tantra teachers and students from across the globe. Already 20 beta Members have enroll in the online university, including Canada and Austria!

Today is the first "open house" where I will officially announce my re-structure. Goddess FabuLiz is going to lead a women's only gathering in which we practice the "Energetic Art of Erotic Strip Tease"....yum! And afterwards we'll do our monthly potluck, tantra theater improv and sacred snuggle party. We've been running similar events for years, yet something about the launch of this new university feels big, new, even scary.

What am I afraid of? Change. The only constant.
In recognizing the paradox of my situation, I consulted some of my favorite quotes on the subject... Its a good reminder to my ego: I'm not the only one who's ever been through radical change. About the Author

. Kamala Devi is a bisexual Latin woman of Jewish descent who was raised in conservative Orange County, California. During school she worked as an event coordinator for her family's publishing and consulting company. As an undergraduate Kamala produced a handful of lesbian and feminist-themed plays, and graduated with a double emphasis on Women's Studies and Performance art.
. After about seven year’s involvement in the lesbian scene, Kamala fell in love with a man and followed him to Hawaii to practice partner yoga, polyamory, and politics. They lived on Wimanalo Beach, in a crazy drumming commune in a pegboard shack with their pet chicken, Stu. Kamala lead botanical garden tours by day, and by night she directed Gay Pride of Honolulu and the Honolulu Gay and lesbian film festival '97. Hawaii is where she experienced her first Tantric awakening.
. It was during a regular Tuesday night drumming practice. The Tahitian neighbors always roasted a pig and everyone drummed and danced under the stars. Kamala remembers dissolving into the dance, laughing on the inhale, crying on the exhale, until she wiped the tears from her eyes to see who was laughing. After every ounce of being had been spent, she crawled home to make love. She melted from her earth-suit and merged with the force that animates her. Within the next two years she furthered her sacred sexual exploration through role playing, gift giving, foot washing, ritual sex, sensual feasting, anal sex, cross dressing, performance art, massage, meditation, bondage, dreamscape and gender bending. It was a spontaneous sexual awakening that unfolded without a curriculum or a guru.
. After a painful loss of the Gay and Lesbian Marriage Campaign, Kamala returned to California defeated and depressed. The International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center offered her great solace as she retreated to their ashrams, attained her yoga teachers certificate and changed her name. When given the name Kamala Devi, her Guru warned that it was a tantric name that is understood to mean: She who worships the divine with her body. But Sivinanda was not a tantric order, so Kamala set out again in search of her true self. She backpacked alone through Western Europe for six months. After another run-in with depression, she returned home and continued questing through Southeast Asia, and China. Her great sojourn landed her in San Diego in the arms of her beloved named Michael.
. Kamala first met Michael on Valentines at a Tantra puja led by Francoise Ginsberg. He was volunteering at the door, greeting people with hugs and nametags. He drew a little red heart on her nametag and later got her number. Kamala also connected with a strawberry blond she met in the bathroom. It turns out that Michael had gotten the same woman’s phone number and after a first date with both Michael and this woman, their second date was as a traid on a camping trip to Mexico.
. Michael is an inborn Shaman who’s taught Kamala much about Sexual Healing. Together they traveled to South India to study goddess worship from a Guru who channels Kali. During their pilgrammage, Kamala remembers sitting at the base of Maharshi’s Mountain in Tiravanamli, contemplating the question. Who am I? Coming up with nothing. She continued to sit in the void until her butt got tired from sitting. She stood up, brushed herself off and decided to entertain her desires and take a role in the drama of life. Which is to say, she put her costume back on and danced between the roles of lover, teacher and scribe.

. The 2004 Sumatran Tsunami struck while she was in the airplane on her way home. Kamala was thus inspired to write a novel. Or more accurately, to channel it. It took exactly one year from when she wrote the first line to when she had the published book in hand. This novel is called"Don't Drink the Punch: An Adventure in Tantra" and it came just in time, because Kamala was pregnant at her book release party.
. Kamala and Michael now live in an eco-friendly temple by the beach. From the outside it seems that Kamala and Michael are living the American dream: they are educated, successful, have a healthy baby boy. And yet, they're also living the American Fantasy: they practice tantra, and have been living in a successful open marriage. As such, she has been recieveing national attention. She recently appeared on MTV, Discovery Channel, Morning Show Live, Inside Edition, several independent documentaries and the Tyra Banks Show. She is the co-author of "Sacred Sexual Healing: The SHAMAN Method of Sex Magic" with Baba Dez Nichols and is currently working on a book and a reality TV show with REiD Mihalko entitled, Free-Love, Can You Really Afford it?

An Open Letter announcing:
An inspector from the City came to my house last week. My husband Michael asked her to take off her shoes at the door and then walked her from room to room so she could take pictures of the Emerald Temple. A few days before, we were issued a notice from the City, kindly asking for voluntary compliance of code violation. Apparently the complaint began because I posted my street address online on my Tantra MeetUp page. The fact that my website advertises sex education and sensual parties temporarily caught the attention of the San Diego vice squad. Additionally, the city reports that at least one neighbor complained that parking was an issue and they overheard someone in front of our house saying, Quote: "you better bring condoms."

Michael spoke with the female vice squad detective who specializes in narcotics, prostitution, pornography and gambling. She looked over my website and said she could clearly see that I am not a prostitute and didn't want to waste her time coming over to our home. The parking complaint is typical in this neighborhood since we live 2 blocks from the bars and 4 blocks from the beach, and the condom comment could have been made by any college student on the streets of PB. Still, the city would have to investigate for zoning violations.

The inspector was a nice woman, but I had mixed feelings about her taking pictures of the sacred objects in my temple. Initially it felt like an invasion of privacy, so I had a pre-emptive consultation with a lawyer friend who suggested I say, "you have permission to enter my home, but you do not have my permission to take photos." I considered this option, but ultimately decided: I have nothing to hide. Michael asked the city official exactly what she was looking for. She specifically said she wanted to see the bedrooms and bathrooms and if there were locks on the doors and or too many beds. In short, they wanted to see if my home looked like a sex club or a brothel. Further Michael asked what we needed to do to comply with the city and she said:

1) Get a business license for any work you do at home.

2) Stop using your home address on your online advertising.

And so it is.

It is done.

Although the case may not be officially closed for several more weeks, I've gone into deep prayer and meditation about my role as a temple priestess. And what about my role as a wife and mother of a 2 year old? Or an erotic entrepreneur running a coaching practice? And ultimately, as a tantra teacher? How can I gracefully dance between these roles and still have integrity with my students, seekers and neighbors?

After much meditation, I hear Spirit calling me to move my work more towards a tantric school, with private entrollment. Like many, my heart longs for greater depth and commitment from the tantra community. As an active community leader, I've seen many seekers come and go; connections made and broken. I know how deep this work is, and how easy it is to run when the resistance comes up. I also see how hard it is to establish trust and safety if we don't know the others who show up to walk the same path. I now see the complaint from the city as a call to step up my integrity, commitment and service to the community.

Thus, I'm shifting my focus from running tantric events to running a Virtual School. I'm hereby announcing the birth of a new membership site: Bliss Coach University. We will no longer be charging or asking for donations for any of the events at my home. I've uploaded over ten hours of tantric teachings online and continue to offer more telephone, online and video resources. All members are invited to commit to a minimum of 6 months and will receive a combination of online and in-person coaching. I feel this shift not only supports my local students in creating deeper community, but my national and international students who don't have access to the teachings that are so abundant in San Diego.
