Truth as a Spiritual Practice

" The truth will set you free? But what does that mean? And what the hell does it have to do with Free Love?"

After thousands of years of practice, Patanjalis was the first person to give us a written record of yoga philosophy. His Yoga Sutras outline ten basic principles (Like 10 commandments for yogis). Satya or Truth is the second Yama or Yogic law, right after Ahimsa (Do no harm.) Satya is not just about doing truth, but thinking, speaking and being truth.

In my yoga teacher training I spent several weeks meditating each of Patanjali’s sutras. When contemplating Satya, I was taught to imagine that every moment and interaction in my life was caught on tape. And then if I were to evaluate, if it were measured with a truth detector, how would I fair? Thus, I weighed my words and actions and began to unravel years of acquired habits and patterns that perpetuated deception. I not only identified all the places in my own life where I was lying and withholding, but I noticed how family and friends unconsciously encourage lying.

Using euphemisms on resumes, sensationalizing stories on the news, skewing statistics and false advertising are all examples of how our society perpetuates lies and masks and does not support us in being totally real. Common sayings such as: “what they don’t know won’t hurt them”, “they’re just little white lies.” “Ignorance is bliss” sink into our psyche and help us justify lying. We are taught that looking good, winning or staying together is better than being real.

Lying is not only unethical, but unclean and unhealthy. Untruths create psychic dissonance, weakness in muscle strength, tax the immune system and have been correlated to disease and even cancer. When we lie, we create unconscious stress and disconnection. Our self concept becomes incongruent. We feel guilty, even if it’s at deep subconscious levels this guilt eats away at our health and vitality. Lying creates delusion, confusion and mistrust in relationship…even when you think the person you are lying to will never find out.

Being real is essential for relationship mastery especially in non-conventional relationships. When we don’t speak our truth, it is automatically assumed that we agree with and play by the rules that our society has set out for us. Social programming may have us like automatons fall in love, buy a house, have 1.5 kids a dog and a white picket fence...And then one day we wake up and say…this is not my life. This is what the “midlife crises” is about. People waking up and actually questioning: who am I? Because they never learned to question it before. When we learn to speak our truth from the beginning, we can build our relationships on a strong foundation. We can orient our lives around our values and that way we don’t wake up one day and have our entire worlds crumbling down around us.

MTV is callling for True Life Poly People

I'm going to NY next month to be in this show! And since they are still looking for a West Coast poly family to profile, I thought I'd post the following.... Know anyone who fits the description?

Hi there,

I work for MTV News & Documentaries in Los Angeles, and I'm
currently researching a new round of episodes for MTV's long-
running series, True Life. The series, if you're unfamiliar,
employs first-person narrative storytelling to provide a window
into the lives of young Americans. To date, the series has
explored topics as complex as living with a disorder such as
autism or obsessive-compulsive disorder; living in extreme
poverty; single parenting; and being deployed to and returning
from military service in Iraq.

On the lighter side, True Life also explores all aspects of
human relationships--friendships, families, and of course,
romance. We're currently exploring the idea of a True Life
episode featuring young people who are involved in polyamorous
relationships (in which all parties know about each other). We
are interested in hearing from people with all kinds of
stories, from happy threesomes, polyamourous couples in a tug-
of-war with a third party, married couples in open
relationships, singles whose ex-es have resurfaced, causing
friction in current relationships, swinging couples, and
everything in-between. Can you help us put out our call for
stories?

We're specifically looking for stories that are unfolding in
the present, in which the love triangle plays a role in a
process, upcoming decision, change or transition on the horizon
for one or more of the people involved.

We would like to get the word out to people in our age range
(18-28, roughly) who might be interested in possibly sharing
their story and ultimately participating in a documentary
project that would follow as they navigate whatever conflict,
tension, obstacle, or decision they are facing because of or
related to their poly relationship.

Let me know and thanks for any assistance you can provide… if
there is anyone else you think I should contact about this
project, or if you have any questions, please feel free to get
in touch with me at (949) 533-9918 or by email at
mtvpolyamory@gmail.com.

Free Love Community Talk with Zegg Masters

Last fall, Dawn Porter, a British television personality did an hour long docu-series on Free Love and flew me and my co-author Baba Dez out to a Free Love commune in Germany called ZEGG. It was a brief four day visit where we quickly discovered they were not interested in learning Tantra from us, but had a lot to teach us about sustainable relationships… I was surprised to learn their intentional community involves over 80 full time residences who are committed to radical transparency, free love and world peace. I was immediately attracted to a tall middle age man named Achim. He has been a leader and teacher at this community for more than half his life and has a casual but enlightened presence. I invited him and his primary partner to come to stay with us in san diego during his 6 month tour through the Americas.
A week before they arrived I posted a little notice that read:
The Germans Are Coming! The Germans Are Coming! They’re coming to share what it’s like to live at a intentional free love eco-village called ZEGG.
With little notice, over 25 friends and lovers showed up from out of the woodworks. There seems to be great interest in hearing a global perspective on love and community. After some basic introductions and a 15 minute slideshow presentation I facilitated a Q & A. If you’re interested in seeing the video presentation you can watch on you tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUc4bMPjbVo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvzR86gSmvY
Achim and Ina were happy to talk on topics such as:
eco-sustainability,
organic farming,
communal child rearing,
Radical Communication,
spirituality,
finance
and world peace.
But I admit, I was most eager to talk about Free Love. Achim’s partner Ina is an attractive middle age woman with long dark hair and manicured toenails which she sensually rubbed together while she spoke. She started off by saying she is happy to share about her personal life. She feels that love is not a private issue, it is a political one. It is a also an intimate issue, yes, but it is something that all humans share. And if we are to live in more harmony on the planet then we had better work harder at understand the human heart. She explained that for the last 10 years they have been in an open partnership with Achim and she has other partners, lovers and sexual friends. She defined partner as someone you would share a common goal or project with. You can have partnership with someone you work with whether or not you have great sex. You can also have great sex with your friends. In this culture these two terms are mutually exclusive. Generally people don’t have sex with their friends. But Ina asks, why not? What a beautiful thing to share with your friend. In ZEGG they use the term, sexual friendship. Ina also shared that for the moment she is not interested in more partners. Sexual friends and lovers, yes, but she is happy to have only one long term partner right now.
Achim adds that all these labels and terms for different kinds of relationships are only approximations. If we are truly in the experience of life all the categories and definitions don’t serve us. Achim was originally attracted to ZEGG early in life because he noticed that the way he was doing relationship wasn’t working, and he was a peace activist and an environmentalist and all of these parts of his life seemed separate until he found ZEGG…where they all seemed to come together.
Ina was initially introduced to the concept of ZEGG by a friend who said there is a place where people live together and practice free love and there is no jealousy. She was about 22 then, and has lived at ZEGG for over twenty years and emphatically reports that jealousy still happens.
Jealousy, she says, is like as a disease, an illness. It is not our natural state of being, and when we get jealous we have to remember to be kind to ourselves. The term jealousy is quite a combination of feelings a summation of many needs, stories, fears, upsets, hurts, frustrations…yet when we say jealousy it’s as if we all know what we’re talking about. Jealousy is different for everyone.
And Jealousy is rarely about your current situation. When Achim is relating to another women and Ina gets jealous, she finds that only 5 percent of her jealousy is about his behavior and the other 95 percent is because of unresolved emotions and painful wounds from past experiences. Most of us were raised with neglect, abandonment, loss and other dysfunctional love paradigms. We didn’t get our needs met in adolescence so we carry around old stories like land mines waiting to get triggered.
Achim says that we can live our entire life trying not to feel jealousy. It’s like driving a car in circles trying to avoid our unresolved issues. If this is how we live, our entire life path will be determined by what we’re afraid to feel or face. It’s not a true course. Instead Achim stays in touch with the force of life and if jealousy comes up it’s like a healing opportunity. He uses jealousy as a way to heal unresolved issues and to take the hurt out of them. Much like disarming a landmine. If we go directly into our fears and our pain we are able release the old stories and no longer be run by them. We become clearer and more liberated each time. In this way, Achim says I welcome the Jealousy. She is a teacher and a goddess to learn from. She shows us where we are stuck and hurt.
Ina gives the example of a time when she watched Achim on the couch cuddling a woman in a very timeless interaction. This bothered her. But soon she realized the only reason it hurt her is because she doesn’t give herself time to cuddle on the couch. She always says she’s too busy. It makes sense that he would get his need met from someone else and she got the important reflection that she is bound by time and that she can chose to become more timeless. She doesn’t fear jealousy anymore because it always has something valuable to teach.
Further, when jealousy arises, its best not to go to Achim (or whoever you feel is causing the jelousy) because they may stir the feelings up more and not help you see the lesson. Ina finds it best to go to her women friends or other lovers in the community. Community support is essential. Our friends can be great mirrors to help us see what is really bothering us. Ultimately it is up to each individual to do the inner work which is more spiritual than it is therapeutic. The work is to practice self love and to engage fully in the flow of life. When we’re really engaged in life and we feel self love, we become whole. A whole person doesn’t have jealousy. If someone has never been hurt then there is no past wound to get activated. There is no story there. There is no reason for a whole person to get upset when they see somebody getting something that they want. A whole person celebrates when other people are getting what they want, even if they don’t have it themselves. But our culture teaches us there is only one love, one mother, one god and this is an jealous god. These cultural myths affect how we experience love.
Also, Ina warns it is dangerous to put all of our needs on one poor person. She tries find others to meet various needs, not always Achim so that he doesn’t go bankrupt. She tries to distribute her needs among my other friends and lovers. That way she only comes to Achim with the needs that are easy and graceful. This way people love each other out of free choice not obligation to meet each others needs.
At this point in the lecture, many people were so interested in the teachings of this utopia that they wanted to know how to become a member of ZEGG. What are the criteria to live there? Zegg is a conference center and has many visitors during the summer months. They are also a sustainable eco-village and the 80 full time residence work hard and live indoors during the winter. So when a visitors comes to summer camp they don’t automatically become part of the core community. They have to establish trust and relationship first. It is like living in a large open marriage, you don’t want to rush into anything;everyone has to get along. If someone gets turned on by the philosophy of ZEGG and wants to try living there they are invited to come to an immersive experience where a select group of visitors will practice living in community for 5 weeks. And if that goes well and they want to continue they would be invited to stay for a summer season and eventually over an average of five years they might be welcomed in as a full time residence.
In Conclusion the most valuable thing that I got from studying with Ina and Achim is something that achim said to me quite casually in my living room before the workshop begin. After a brief discussion of how I see the San Diego Tantra and Poly communities, Achim said, “You are ready for a bigger commitment from your community. When people are invested in working together on bigger projects over longer periods of time, a whole new level of satisfaction emerges. I agree. I’m ready. Who wants to join me?

Bisexuality is a Blessing

Bisexuality is a blessing not only because it doubles your chances of getting a date on a Saturday night, but it makes poly a tad more understandable in some circles. Frankly most everyone can agree that it is hard for one sex to substitute the needs for the other. As a bisexual woman who came out at age 16, I was clear that I wasn’t going to be happy settling down with one sex for the rest of my life. Infact I wouldn’t even commit to anyone unless we agreed that I could, if I desired, see someone of the opposite sex. It was not an either or it was a clear both. My male partners would have a hard time arguing that they were able to meet my needs for feminine companionship just as my lesbian lovers simply could not provide me with the unique pleasures of what I now know to be called “bio-cock.” (Thank you REiD for edifying me on this term.) As much as I love fingers and other store bought implements, nothing substitutes for a non-detachable penis. Not that this is the only unique benefit of dating the male species, but it’s worthy of a special note and I trust my readers to know, that I know: there is more to a man than what is between his legs.
In any case, when Michael first asked me for my phone number I was quick to say something to the tune of: I’d love to get to know you better, but I want you to know up front that I’m bisexual and I’m still in close contact with my recent ex girlfriend.” He smiled and seemed immediately to know that what I actually meant was that I’m still sleeping with her, or at least he took it for code that I was a candidate to fulfill his threesome fantasies. He responded by saying he is happy that I’m not the jealous type.
Once that was agreed. We had a smokin’ first date, and though we both probably talked a tad too much about our other lovers, we were clearly not pretending to be monogamous. So it is that we started off our poly relationship.

1. Be Real

If you score a woman’s number at a club and you want to call her but you don’t know if it’s too soon or too often. Call her. Let her know. “I don’t know if this is too soon, but I wanted to call...” And before you get off the phone be sure to ask her how often she’d like to talk.

If you’re on a first date with a man and you have the impulse to touch him but you hold back because you don’t want them to get the wrong idea, go ahead and say, “I’m a tactile person, is it OK if I touch you while we’re talking?”

If you’re in a committed relationship and you find yourself daydreaming and fantasizing about other people. Ask your partner, is it OK for us to talk about our feelings towards others?

These are a few simple examples of what it means to “be real.” In each case you are making clear requests for what you want and not playing games. Of course, the other person has choice in the situation, and you stand the chance of being rejected, but it’s worth the risk if you want to live a full life with no regrets. It’s also the most direct path to creating and sustaining non traditional relationships.

We all know how shitty it feels to ‘stuff’ our feelings. Or to have a secret desire which never gets expressed. There are all kinds of people living in closets who masquerade around life behind masks and veils. We can become so accustomed to pretending that we even forget who we are. Usually the impetus for lying and pretending is to please others. All humans (unless they are psychopaths) have an innate drive to be liked. We all want to look good and fit in sooo much that we’re willing to wear costumes that don’t even fit us…especially if that’s what everyone else is wearing.

Unfortunately if we are not real in relationship, our partner or partners can’t truly fall in love with us, but with who they think we are based on the pretenses we present. They may fall in love with an illusion that we project and that leaves us unsatisfied and hungry for true love. At core we all want to be loved for who we are, and secretly we fear that if someone were to find out the real truth they would recoil in horror.

There are many marriages that are based on this false love, where both parties are dissatisfied because they don’t feel they know their partners and in turn want to be loved for who they are and they are. To prove this point, in relationship workshops, we have fun getting the participants to sing that Neil Sedaka song that Jimmy Buffet sings:

I was tired of my lady,
We'd been together to long,
Like a warn out recording,
Of a favorite song.
So while she lay there sleeping,
I read the paper in bed,
And in the personal columns,
There was this letter I read.

If you like Pina Colada's,
And getting caught in the rain,
If your not into yoga,
If you have half a brain,
If you like making love at midnight,
In the dunes on the cape,
Then I'm the love that you've looked for,
Write to me and escape.

I didn't think about my lady,
I know that sounds kinda mean,
But me and my old lady,
Had fallen into the same dull routine,
So I wrote to the paper,
Took out a personal ad,
And though I'm nobody's poet,
I thought it wasn't half bad.

Yes I like Pina Colada's,
And getting caught in the rain,
I'm not much into health food,
I am into champagne,
I've got to meet you by tomorrow noon,
And cut through all this red tape,
At a bar called O'Malley's,
Where we'll plan our escape.

So I waited with high hopes,
And she walked in the place,
I knew her smile in an instant,
I knew the curve of her face,
It was my own lovely lady,
And she said "Oh its you",
Then we laughed for a moment,
And I said "I never knew".

That you like Pina Coladas,
And getting caught in the rain,
And the feel of the ocean,
And the taste of champagne,
If you like making love at midnight,
In the dunes on the cape,
Your the lady I've looked for,
Come with me and escape.

If you like Pina Colada,
And getting caught in the rain,
If your not into yoga,
If you have half a brain,
If you like making love at midnight,
In the dunes on the cape,
Then I'm the love that you've looked for,
Write to me and escape.

The moral of the song of course is that the truth is exciting. And when people are honest with each other about their likes and dislikes they can avoid falling into a relationship rut. When we stay connected to our truth we will have juicier relationships.

It’s like dear old Polonius says to his son before he dies:
“And this above all, unto thine own self be true and it shall follow as the day the night - thou can'st not then be false to any man.” Which is a profound truth, but then again, in Midsummer’s nights dream Shakespeare also said: The course of true love never did run smooth. So granted, it’s not as easy as it sounds.

One of the many reasons it is so hard to be real all the time is that many of us don’t actually know who we are. Or even what we want. We’ve grown so accustom to subtle layers of deception, for so long, that we’ve forgotten how to listen to the deep true impulse. The pre-requisite to being real is to know thine self. Self inquiry can be a deep spiritual practice. It could involve mediation, contemplation, journaling, dream work and other advanced yogic practices. Or it could simply look like an intention to be real. The important thing in your quest to becoming more authentic is that you do it authentically. If yoga’s not your thing then don’t do it. Some people find themselves in a spontaneous instant when they decide to be real and some people spend years in pilgrimage traveling the world looking for themselves. Ultimately, it’s up to you. And regardless what path you chose, the inquiry is always the same: Who am I? In any situation, just tell the truth. This is the formula for authenticity, transparency and ultimately self realization.

To Be Continued...

My Creative Declaration:

To be an artist is to work in the realm of magic. To dedicate oneself to the muses and create from a deep sense of wonder. Like many modern creatives, I use visualization, affirmations and incantations in the process of birthing new work. And while birthing a book...I use whatever help I can get!
In my "How to Write a Book in 90 day course" I encourage my students capitalize on the power of their EGO by sending out a mass email to all their friends about the book they're writing. This not only keeps them accountable, but sets up negative consequences if they don't write. In fact, I suggest they adapt their form letter from "NaNoWriMo Agreement and Statement of Understanding" which goes as follows:

I hereby pledge my intent to write a _____word book in ____time. By invoking an absurd, deadlines on such an enormous undertaking, I understand that notions of “craft,” “brilliance,” and “competency” are to be chucked right out the window, where they will remain, ignored, until they are retrieved for the editing process. I understand that I am a talented person, capable of heroic acts of creativity, and I will give myself enough time over the course of the next month to allow my innate gifts to come to the surface, unmolested by self-doubt, self-criticism, and other acts of self-bullying.
During the month(s) ahead, I realize I will produce clunky dialogue, clichéd characters, and deeply flawed plots. I agree that all of these things will be left in my rough draft, to be corrected and/or excised at a later point. I understand my right to withhold my manuscript from all readers until I deem it completed. I also acknowledge my rights as author to substantially inflate both the quality of the rough draft and the rigors of the writing process should such inflation prove useful in garnering me respect and attention, or freedom from participation in onerous household chores.
I acknowledge that the deadline I set for myself is absolute and unchangeable, and that any failure to meet the deadline, or any effort on my part to move the deadline once the adventure has begun, will invite well-deserved mockery from friends and family. I also acknowledge that, upon successful completion of the stated writing objective, I am entitled to a period of gleeful celebration and revelry, the duration and intensity of which may preclude me from participating fully in workplace activities for days, if not weeks, afterward. Reality is a crutch for those who are unable to handle fantasy
Sign and date below:______________
The intention of today's blog post is to declare the following:

Dear friends and lovers,

I am hereby pledging to generate at least 50 pages in the next 50 days. Each page will be at least 320 words of content written for my new book entitled, FREE LOVE: Can you Really Afford it by . I am co-authoring this book with "relationship rockstar"--REiD Mihalko, and much of the material is of mutual intellectual property as it is generated from our talks, playshops, and writing sessions together. We have set the deadline of June 1st to complete the first draft.

I am working on the first five chapters, while is working on the second half of the book. I intend to post an average of seven pages per week which may look like five pages in five days or as Chuck Woolery used to say in the Love Connection, two in two. You get the idea.

I understand that my grammar may be compromised, and the work that I generate will be modified drastically during my collaborative re-writing with REiD but I wholly intend to provide the most entertaining and enlightening information that I can manifest at the pace of a page per day. My content will be for the following five chapters:

  1. BE REAL,
  2. LOVESTYLES,
  3. ART OF COMMUNICATION
  4. COMMUNITY AND FAMILY
  5. KNOW YOUR NEEDS

Your support, encouragment and positive feedback are welcome. I also give you full permission to harass me (send me comments here or on facebook) if you see that it has been longer than a week and I have not produced at least 7 new pages.

I am not interested (at this time) in your critique and criticism of the content as this is a rough draft. If you find you cannot hold your tongue, at least be kind and sandwich your critique between compliments...I am after all a tender artist and feel vulnerable about sharing my work in progress. Thanks for your creative support, don't hesitate to let me know if there is something I can do to support you in creating your dreams!

Harness Your Blogging Habbit!

Nearly everyone fantasizes about becoming an author. But not everyone wants to actually sit down and write a book. I know, because I earn a portion of my income coaching people on how to shortcut the long arduous journey of writing their books. They pay me to hold their hands while they do the work. It's like being a personal trainer. I tell them what to do, but if they want results, they have to show up and pump iron themselves. Don't get me wrong, I love writing. But it's hard work. It's painful, lonely and if you do it right, you have to run dangerously close to loosing your grip on reality.

I don't blame my clients, I don't want to do any more work than I have to. Speed Writing always seemed so romantic. I was infatuated with the idea of just sitting down and squeezing out a book out. Especially since the idea for "Don't Drink the Punch" came through me like a white hot lightning bolt when I was traveling in India. Why couldn't I write it just as fast. The challenge seemed intense, even tantric. I fancied myself a secretary taking dictation from the goddess herself. But since I'd never actually written a book, I spent about a year studying and modeling the most prolific writers and spiritual channels in order to develop the method I call, "How to write a book in 90 days."

My second book came after a year of teaching this 90 day technology. Baba Dez Nichols called me up around Thanksgiving in '07 asked if it was really possible to have a book written, printed and available for sale at his Sedona conference in May of '08. The challenge turned me on. And after a romantic whirlwind we birthed, "Sacred Sexual Healing. I've since taught dozens of students how to write their own books in record time, but I am still tweaking and improving the process especially as new information and technology emerges.

One of the design flaws in my course seems to be that people stall after they write their first draft or they lose steam during their re-write. I've even had students who've completed their re-write but have no motivation to play the long arduous publishing game.

So after years of writing e-zines I've recently been seduced into Blogging. Blogging offers the dual incentive of instant publishing and an interactive forum with your readers. So I noticed that some of the very same students who loose their mojo for book writing, spend hours online typing blogs on the very same topic. Further I've heard rumors about such bloggers who are generating e-books, striking book deals, meeting agents online and even getting picked up by publishers because of their little techno-literary habit. I even met a couple of Brilliant coaches who offer a complete package to help people turn their blogs into books. (Scroll down for details.)

So I ask myself, how hard can it be? You set up a blog, you create a publishing schedule, You establish the subject, outline the content, you tell all your friends you're going to do it (peer pressure is key) and start blogging! So I figure, since I'm having a hard time sitting my ass in the chair and working on my new book "Free Love: Can you really afford it?" I thought I'd give this Blog to Book idea a crack...Stay tuned next week when I post my writing goals.

Infinite Love,

Kamala Devi

The TANTRA MATRIX: a tool Box for sacred sex professionals
I stalk success. I’ve studied erotic entrepreneurs who struggle as well as those who succeeded. I pay attention to my students feedback and decompress with countless other tantra teachers. Most importantly, I listen to the voice of my own spiritual guides. In synthesizing all these experiences, both personal and vicarious, I seek the answer to one question: "What wisdom will open channels for the most direct transmission of Tantra?" This is how I discovered the TANTRA MATRIX. In essence, the TANTRA MATRIX is a powerful toolbox to help you generate and organize your sacred sexual curriculum. It is a taxonomy of tantric practices. In this interactive presentation, I will offer a paradigm shift that will help you access infinite source of curriculum. I will introduce the ten major categories and teach you how to use the TANTRA MATRIX to better understand, appreciate and prepare your own curriculum for privates or for groups.

The following members of the SD Tantra Theater Troupe will be performing scenes from The Birth of Tantra Theater: Michael McClure, Shawn Roop, Ariel White, Viraja Ma, Joy Keller and FabuLiz Hahn Directed by Kamala Devi. See you there!

Cliff Notes for Tantra Theater

After the welcome circle, I started the evening off by explaining that the Tantra Theater Show is the product of a 90 day journey where we tight-walked the fine line between art and therapy. During rehearsals we laughed, cried, and circulated orgasmic energy together. Most of the scenes are written by the performer.
Just as there are 64 tantric arts...Viraja Ma went through 64 hours of labor...and thus the play started with a dramatization of her tantric home-birth. In a media interview after the show, the interviewer asked me...what does birth have to do with tantra?
Tantra teaches us that we are all divine gods and goddesses. We are learning to experience more divinity in our bodies... and there is no more obvious and direct way to know that you are a creator, than by giving birth. Every woman has the opportunity to experience her womb as a portal to the spirit realm. When woman chooses not to give their power over to the medical establishment, they can stay in touch with the experience of bringing life to earth.

Tantra also gives us permission to turn gender roles upside down. In this next scene...we have Michael playing the high school slut and Rita smokes a cigar and washes her penis off before making Michael give her a blow job.

What would the evening be without a little gender-bending and lesbian fun? Oh, My Goddesses...Ariel and Joy are hot together!

I should have warned the people in the front row that they were in the "Splash Zone" Just like at SeaWorld, "If you are sitting in the first three rows...You Will Get Wet." Here Cynthia performes: My Amrita, My Blood, My Milk and Me.
Viraja and Shawn don't just play the part of divine mother and father...they ARE Shakti and Shiva incarnate!

Viraja and Michael on the other hand...could use a little cheese with their crackers...You'll be hearing more from "Sister Shakti Ma" and "Swami Rainbow-Anada" as they launch their YouTube tantra teaching series.

In "Shawn vs. the Vacuum" we get a glimpse into the deep sexual wounding that a modern tantra master had to overcome...The picture says it all.

I know this next scene looks like Shawn is trying to levitate while his sisters are playing the hand jive...but it's actually a brilliant scene by Ember which suggests that we chose our life's circumstances and it is up to each individual to forgive, worship, and remember their own divinity.

And finally, what would Tantra be without a little Bollywood dance at the end?

Special Thank you to Tracey Lontos and Electric Rick for taking these photos.
Thank you San Diego Tantra Theater Troupe!

Love, KD

Director's Notes

I hate to be one of those directors who, at the beginning of the show goes on and on about how significant the collaborative process was. HOWEVER--This show was intended as a "process piece" which means we spent 90 days of sharing wild hot inspiration on subjects ranging from birth to death.

Whenever you get together in a concentrated circle of powerful alchemists for the purpose of creating ...you're likely to manifest life circumstances with similar themes. It's true, "life imitates art" and ofcourse, the converse is true. Together we moved through marriage, the death of several troupe members, pregnancy, divorce and new love. Always with a keen eye on what is thereapy and what is art.

Through this process, we generated over five hours of deep intimate performance material. And ultimately, my greatest challenge as the director is the burden to whittle it all down to a manageable show. If the weather weren't so damn cold, and our audience wasn't sitting in the grass under the stars...I'd probably make them witness more of our process and disclaim that tantric theater is like tantric lovemaking... long and challenging.

Alas, for those who don't have the endurance of a rock star, I selected only the most inspired pieces and pocketed the other performances for an future encore where we might share our outtakes and give birth to our"creative miscarriages." I look forward to hearing how our process sets fire to yours. Join us March 27th and 28th at 6:45pm at 1140 Emerald St. San Diego, CA 92109. $15 858-272-2254

Want to Write a Book in 90 days!

Special Offer: Listen to this FREE 75 minute Introductory Tele-Class on HOW TO WRITE A BOOK IN 90 DAYS. Kamala Devi will give you a creative kick in the ass!

Writers & Soon to be Authors- Tired of talking about a great book idea that never actually makes it onto paper? Do you want to experience the excitement, accomplishment and prestige of completing a book? Even if you're a complete novice and have no formal writing training, Kamala Devi will coach you through her proven formula for...
How to Write a Book in just 90 Days ...

"I've done it for two of my own books, and helped many students become authors within record time and minimal cost.

Dear Writer,
No matter what type of book you want to create, whether it's fiction or non-fiction, I'll guide you step-by-step to turn your dream into a reality. My students learn to tap into their spiritual inspiration and channel more in three month than most authors do in a whole year... all while working from the comfort of home!

What makes me so sure I can show you how to write a book in 90 days?
Because I've not only done it for my own books: Don't Drink the Punch and Sacred Sexual Healing, but I've helped dozens of other authors -- many of them first-timers -- turn their ideas into books (read on for proof.)

In college I learned to write quickly because I was a playwright. Like Shakespeare in Love, I had a whole team of actors and directors breathing down my neck to get my pages finished. Then, I went to India and got clear calling to write a novel. But I didn't know the first thing about how to write a book.

Yet I knew I had a message I wanted to share with others, so I went to every crash course I could on how to write, edit and publish a book. The classes were depressing and discouraging. The process seemed arduous and hopeless.

I was desperate to learn a NEW way to write, so I began combining technical writing tools, with quantum physics, and spiritual principle.

Almost immediately my book was born! And as I told my friends and lovers about my discoveries, they started using my methods and they experienced nearly overnight success.
Essentially, the formula involves dedicating yourself to write the book in the shortest amount of time. First we begin by visioning and structuring, channeling and downloading then refining and polishing.

To motivate yourself to write book, you restructure your time management, tell everyone you know that you're doing it, and show up to bi-weekly accountability calls. All I ask is that you devote no more than 10 hours per week. I've been testing and tweaking this 90 day (3 month) class for the last five years and have had amazing results!

Can it really be done? Just ask the following Graduates:
Kypris Aster Drake, Author of Journey to Sexual Wholeness
Vicki Vantoch, Author of The Threesome Handbook
Bad Girl Liz, Author of What color are your stripper shoes?
Mare Simone Asha, Author of Male Sexual Mastery
Mariette Pan, Author of Dream Spinner
Grampa Jack, Airplanes Don't Wear Skiis, Grampa
Larry Staples, Rachel's Best Summer Ever
Robin Dorhn Simpson, A Peruvian Adventure
Tiffany Silver, Author of The Love Book
Alex Cherish, For You Oprah, A Diet and Workout for Your Inner Child
And More!

My Tele-coaching program is the only option (that I know of) where an expert will personally guide you through all the proven writing skills, tools and tactics to take your book from an initial idea all the way to being published!

The Tele-course Runs: 1pm-2:30pm March. 12,19,26 April 2,9,16,23 and May 7,21, 28 FREE Open house on March 5th. Also Includes optional 30 minute check-in calls every Tuesday during the 90 day period. Course Tuition is only $497. Reserve your space now by going to http://90daybook.eventbrite.com

Cast All Your Votes For Dancing

Hafiz says:

I know the voice of depression
Still calls to you.

I know those habits that can ruin your life
Still send their invitations.

But you are with the Friend now
And look so much stronger.

You can stay that way
And even bloom!

Keep squeezing drops of the Sun
From your prayers and work and music
And from your companions' beautiful laughter.

Keep squeezing drops of the Sun
From the sacred hands and glance of your Beloved
And, my dear,
From the most insignificant movements
Of your own holy body.

Learn to recognize the counterfeit coins
That may buy you just a moment of pleasure,
But then drag you for days
Like a broken man
Behind a farting camel.

You are with the Friend now.
Learn what actions of yours delight Him,
What actions of yours bring freedom
And Love.

Whenever you say God's name, dear pilgrim,
My ears wish my head was missing
So they could finally kiss each other
And applaud all your nourishing wisdom!

O keep squeezing drops of the Sun
From your prayers and work and music
And from your companions' beautiful laughter

And from the most insignificant movements
Of your own holy body.

Now, sweet one,
Be wise.
Cast all your votes for Dancing!

My First Video Adventure...

Monday, March 2

In Loving Memory of Kim and Chris

This evening I had the bittersweet honor of giving a Eulogy. My dear friends Kim Heil and Chris Rubino died in a car accident on their way home from a Cuddle Party TM lead by Valerie in Joshua Tree on Feb. 16th 2009. Kim was buried in her home town on the east coast and Chris’s ashes were scattered across the country (including in Kims tomb) and the reception was held at a local SD Mariott where there were friends, co-workers and family members speaking on their behalf.

I selected two short pieces of literature that had deep significance for both Kim and Chris. But first, a few personal notes. I’ve known them for the last 3 years, I had the privilege of offering them their first Tantra puja, and they were quick to sign up for nearly everything I offered afterwards. They were also dedicated students of Francoise’s. They soon become pillars in the Tantra community, and in time they also became close personal friends.

In fact, before Michael and I conducted our tantric commitment ceremony, we were having challenges in our relationship and called together a few people es to help us work on our relationship issues. As a relationship coach I was very selective about who I would share my personal trials with, but felt that Kim and Chris knew a thing or two about how to keep a modern relationship successful. It turns out they were instrumental in getting us back into harmony.

We had a lot in common with them. They are not only tantrikas, but thespians! Michael used to hold comedy improve classes in our living room and of course they would show up for that. In fact they were part of the original inspiration for me to start a Tantra Theater troupe. Over New Years we selected 10 creative pioneers to explore birth death and a sacred sexual celebration of life. Kim was going to be our choreographer. Every October she was one of the organizers trying to break the Guinness World Record for the most people simultaneously reenacting the dance from Michael Jackson's Thriller Video. She was going to teach us the basic thriller moves and we were going to do a Tantra- zombie-Bollywood-fusion dance. She was so multi-talented. They were both so creative, sometimes perhaps too creative.

On more than one occasion, Chris alluded to not really fitting into the Tantra community, or any community for that matter. They didn’t consider themselves “spiritual.” The only church they’d go to on Sundays was the San Diego Zoo. If you want to learn anything about human behavior just watch the primates. More specifically, the Bonobo apes.
The Bonobos share more than 98 percent of our genetic profile, making them the closest human ancestor. The species is characterized as female-centered, egalitarian and highly sexualized social beings, for they have evolved to substitute sex for aggression. Kim and Chris were great believers of the philosophy make love not war they visited the Bonobos so often, the bonobos actually recognized them.
In Tantra Theater I asked the cast members to develop a personal narrative around birth, this is what Kim wrote:

“On April 22nd, he came into this world and he truly was a miracle. Since his mother didn't want him, he was considered an orphan and was cared for by the staff. I tried to visit him as often as I could and was allowed to. No matter what stresses I had going on in my life they instantly disappeared when I was with him. I would spend hours watching him sleep in his crib studying his little face, nose, ears. He looked so peaceful, lying so still, swaddled in a blue blanket with only his head peeking out. And when we first made eye contact I was overwhelmed with the connection and the feeling of oneness. We are all one regardless of gender, culture, race, or species. We are all part of the same universe.”

Chris also left me with a piece of literature. He gave me a book called “Godbody” by Theodore Sturgeon. The main character of the book is a sort of Christ figure who at the end is killed and as he lay dying he says,

“Try to remember me. If your goin’ to tell what I said, make it what I said and not what somebody thinks I said or what somebody wishes I’d said.
Also don’t anybody forget I sweat and stink sometimes, and some people-stinks are better’n all the roses in the world. Also I talk people talk and try to keep things simple. I got no rules to recite except: love eachother; God, if you’d all only do that, you wouldn’t need no other rules at all, not one.
Outdoors naked is all the cathedrals I ever want in my name, all the robes and collars as well. Straight, simple, honest talk is all the services anybody ever needs to hold for me, and if you work out a form for it I won’t come.
If ever you want to touch the hand and the heart of God Almighty, you can do it through the body of someone you love. Anytime. Anywhere. Without no middleman. I’ll see you around.” He died."

I love you Kim and Chris, Chris and Kim.

Seven Year Itch Celebration in Costa Rica

To Celebrate seven fantastic years of Extra-Marital Bliss...Michael and I took a second honeymoon to Playa Grande, Costa Rica with twelve of our closest friends and Lovers.
On the day of our Sacred Ceremony we created a chapel in nature. Here the Men are carrying an arch.

We scouted the perfect place to construct the Temple.

Sammy Spent hours in meditation preparing the earth by raking sand spirals

Our Wedding Procession was black, white and mostly barefoot.

An hour before the ceremony, we seperated the men and women into white and red tents to explore the deep personal meaning of love and comittment.

  • The Sacred Ceremony was private, intimate and magical! We both feel so blessed to be journeying on this great adventure together!
    Our vows:
  • To Live Fully
  • To Love Freely
  • To Experience Truth

Namaste!

Wicked Bachelorette Party (Sisters in Truth Reunion)

I felt like I was back in college:
Hanging out with the girls at Ariel's Home. Feasting at a fancy Thai Restaurant.
Trying out sexy black Lingeree at the Crypt.
Dancing at the local lesbian scene.
We went to girls night, 80's theme, and "Numbers" and watched a silly girly show where two latina women danced with leg warmers, whip cream and chocolate syrup?!
When they started playing Billy Idol's "White Wedding" we decided it was time to stumble home.
I am so blessed to have these goddesses as sisters, friends in my life! Thanks for kid-napping me and co-creating an unforgettable evening the week before my "Seven Year Itch" ceremony. Yummm. Thank you Sisters in Truth.

"Natalie the Nympho and other 50 word Stories by Kamala Devi

# 17
My A/C went on the fritz again. My landlord sent his daughter over to wait for the electrician. All the tenants call her “Natalie the Nympho.” It was extra HOT when I got home from work and found her on my bed with a geeky dyke who never fixed my A/C.

#18
“So, how many people have you slept with?” He asks between coughs.
“I never counted,” She lies and changes the subject without admitting the growling list she kept hidden in her dormitory night-stand . Ultimately she gave up, not because she couldn’t remember their names, but because she never learned them.

#19
She let the “drunk bastard” sleep on her couch again. This was the last time, she swore. But sometime before 2 AM he slipped under her down comforter and did that thing he does with his pierced tongue. Who couldn’t forgive the father of her son, he could always lick clean any grudge.

#20
He rolled up to the packed night club in his beat-up Cadillac with charred upholstery. That didn’t stop him from smoking. He cut in line, and squeezed into the VIP lounge. He ordered a martini and let her take a few sips, before distracting her and slipping her the ruffies.

#21
She sent her lover away with a fuck he’d never forget. Then cried buckets and marveled at how he’d never cease to make her wet. After months of masturbation she had mastered her etheric cock and when he returned she discovered he was even better in fantasy than bed.
